This also apparently carries over to the the Palestinians who you write can do as they please (they'll appreciate that) and who you accuse of trying to placate the white man by rejecting non-violence in favor of BDS.The BDS campaign is designed as a means for the international community to put pressure on Israel in the manner that it was done against South Africa, since the Palestinians apparently do not qualify for humanitarian intervention as was proven by the Security Council's indifference to Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.There is a separate campaign called for by the collaborationist PA which does not, like the former, call for a boycott of Israel or Israeli products, just those from the settlements. This is so pathetic that it barely qualifies on the scale of non-violent resistance, given that it is and has been Palestinian workers who have been building those settlements. This is a subject that those who have long supported the Palestinian cause do not like to speak or think about but it can not be ignored since it is clearly an important measure of the lack of active resistance to Israel's presence in the West Bank.If there was an active resistance, one that goes beyond the weekly marches to protest the wall at Ni'ilin, Mahmoud Abbas, Salem Fayyad, and the now resigned Saeb Erekat would long ago have had to find living quarters outside of the West Bank. If the PA's efforts to suppress the Goldstone Report, if its deep degree of collaboration with Israel exposed by the Palestine Papers, and the expression of solidarity by Abbas with Mubarak, has not caused the West Bankers to rise up in protest in concert with the uprising that is occurring throughout the region, it might reasonably be concluded that the resistance is at its lowest ebb in years.This has no doubt frustrated large numbers of Palestinians who see not only their land being confiscated but the settlers who live on what already has been stolen, running wild without restraint, pulling up trees, viciously attacking farmers, etc. The inhabitants of Itmar, the settlement where the family was slain, were notorious for that and it is not inconceivable that the murdered Vogel family, or at least the head man, was part of that and was known by whoever did the act. It is also not inconceivable that it was done by some extremely deranged person within the settlement (where they are all deranged) who may have had a feud with Vogel and who thought through this mass murder, he would unite all of Israel to resist any attempt to curtail the settlements which it appears to have done.This situation is not only the legacy of 1948 and 1967, it is the results of Arafat's recognition of Israel and the abandonment of armed struggle well before the Oslo agreement which sealed it in cement. The result was that, in what was clearly a mistaken campaign during the second Intifada, Israel civilians became the main target of suicide bombers as opposed to members of the Israeli military which were and remain legitimate targets as long as Israel is an occupying power. (It must be recognized, however, that when Israeli soldiers were occasionally the victims, the accommodating US press removed their uniforms and described them simply as Israelis.)Appearances may be deceiving. What we may be seeing in the West Bank is the lull before the storm and that a new Intifada will erupt that will be more violent than the ones preceding it as 2000 was from 1987. In what direction the violence will go is hard to say but it should go without saying that it will be entirely Israel's fault as it was Israel that wrote the scenario that produced yesterday's mass murder.
