To be honest, I think the media is driinvg the negative perception that the Occupy protests are receiving. For the most part they are still peaceful, but the problem is that the media is portraying them to be some rogue group with no self-control, where in reality they have remained relatively peaceful throughout the protests. For example I was watching CNN and the anchor was talking about how a protester threw a pen at a police officer. Instead of detaining the individual and getting them under control, the officer grabbed the man and threw him to the concrete which caused blood to gush from his face. The anchor instead made the suggestion that he enticed the officer to act with such brutality, where in reality he went beyond his jurisdiction.a0I am not saying that the police is acting like this in a majority of cases, but there is a bias that exists in the media that the police are always right, while protesters are always wrong. This has caused a one sided argument in the media, while all the while forgetting the actual messages that the protesters are proclaiming. The system is broken and unfair, and there needs to be changes. I believe this is an argument whether or not you are liberal or conservative that we can agree with. With a balanced approach to news making, I believe that there would be a favorable view towards these protests, but as long as we let the mainstream media control the argument, our views will be conformed to the media's views.a0
